Frog Day Saturday 29 October 2005

  Hamilton's Frog
  Hamilton’s frog
(Leiopelma hamiltoni)
Hop along to the Sanctuary and learn all about what’s special about New Zealand frogs. There’ll be fascinating talks between 11am and 2pm and the opportunity to see some Southern Bell frogs on loan from the Wellington Zoo. There will be other fun activities for kids too. So pack a picnic, round up the whole family and head along – it’ll be a great family day out.

Children's Day 30 October 2005

New electric boat
Electric Boat

It's smooth, quiet, glides along the Sanctuary's lower lake and is named Ara Kawau.

No, it's not a bird, although the name means "path of the shag" … it’s the Sanctuary’s 15-seat electric boat and all kids under the age of 16 can enjoy a FREE ride on Children’s Day. Don’t miss out! And please make sure you bring Mum and Dad with you as all children visiting the Sanctuary need to be accompanied by an adult.

What Native Plant is that?

Onslow College is offering a course about New Zealand native plants by tutor Dr John Dawson. It looks mainly at the forests which are well represented around Wellington, but also considers other, particularly alpine communities. The course includes Saturday trips to Kaitoke Regional Park, Waikanae Forest Reserves, Otari Wilton’s Bush Native Botanic Garden and an identification morning at Otari.

It starts on 19 October at 7-9pm and the cost is $50. For further information please phone Onslow College on 04 477 1118.
