Come along and learn why some animals have had a devastating effect on New Zealand’s wildlife. There’ll be fascinating talks between 11am and 2pm on the effect of browsers on our native trees, the effect of predators on our native wildlife, weeds and find out all about our unique fence and world-first eradication of 14 mammalian pests on a mainland site.
Kids, pick up a “Pest Pack”. This includes an activity sheet where kids will have fun exploring the Sanctuary and finding answers to various pest-related questions. Also includes stickers, a postcard and lollies. The cost for the Pest Pack is $2 in addition to the entry fee. Kids can enter their answers and go in the draw to win some Reading Cinemas movie passes. Kids, enter our colouring-in competition with great prizes to be won like Reading Cinema movie passes. Also over School Holidays any kids who come dressed up as a pest animal when they visit the Sanctuary will get a complimentary “Pest Pack”. (Visiting Information...)

As a special thank you to all Dads they can get free entry into the Sanctuary on this special day! What a great opportunity to check out some of our new attractions like the scenic boat ride on the lower lake. (Visiting Information...) School holidays – 24 September to 9 October Kids, pick up a “Pest Pack” these school holidays. This includes an activity sheet where you’ll have fun exploring the Sanctuary and finding answers to various pest-related questions. Also includes stickers, a postcard and lollies. The cost for a Pest Pack is just $2 in addition to the entry fee. Once you’ve completed the Pest Quest Trail you can summit your answers to the questions and go into the draw to win a Pest Prize Pack which includes movie passes, a book, pen and other bits and pieces. Come dressed up as a pest animal when you visit the Sanctuary you will get a “Pest Pack” FREE! While you’re here, take a ride on our whisper-quiet electric boat the Ara Kawau. You could walk up the Lake Road one way and take the boat back or vice versa. The boat operates between 11am and 3pm and costs $3 per adult, $2 per child or $8 for a family (2 adults, 3 children). Check out our other attractions for more great things to see and do on your visit. We’re also offering a one hour introductory guided tour of the Sanctuary for school holiday programme groups of ten or more children. The cost is just $5 per child.
