Nature's Corner - What's happening in the Valley in early winter 2004

In the latest Nature's Corner, you can find out what's happening in the Valley, including getting rid of weeds and restoring missing species.

Heritage of Gold Explorer Packs
Come to the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary over the July school holidays and explore the gold mining history of the valley. There are numerous gold mining relics to discover in the bush and a real gold mine to visit. Kids can spend an hour and a half exploring using a specially designed Explorer Pack to help them discover and learn about Wellington's own gold rush.

Explorer Packs include a trail task map, stickers, a postcard, a pencil and a sweet and cost just $2 in addition to the entry fee.

Sanctuary Bio-security Programme Detects a Weasel

You may have read recently in the Dominion Post about a weasel found inside the Sanctuary during a routine pest audit. Occasional breaches are not unexpected and our robust bio-security programme ensured we picked up the intruder promptly.

New Weed Garden

Photos, leaflets and descriptions of weeds are great, but there's nothing like the real thing. Recently, some of the more troublesome of Wellington's weeds have taken root in the Sanctuary's "Weed Garden". More information...

New Bird Brochure

A new bird brochure aimed to help you identify various birds in the Sanctuary and also points out the best ways of spotting them is now available for sale in the Visitor Centre. The brochure costs just $1 in addition to the normal entry fee and all proceeds from the purchase of the brochure help support the Sanctuary. Look out for the new brochure next time you visit!
