On 5 June 2007, Prime Minister Helen Clark announced that the Sanctuary has been granted $6.5 million dollars from the Significant Community-Based Projects Fund towards our Visitor and Education Centre project.
Over 100 Ministers, dignitaries, major supporters, volunteers and trustees gathered on the Heritage Lawn to hear the announcement, which has met with widespread enthusiasm from Wellingtonians and those in the conservation community.
The Government grant, together with an $8m commitment from Wellington City Council and funding from many other individuals and local businesses, allows the Sanctuary to create a centre of conservation education – the next critical step in realising its long term vision. (More...)
