Sanctuary SuperstarWhat do the latest Hollywood hero and a Wellywood pigeon have in common? Well, for starters, they’re both called Valiant. The first ever kereru (New Zealand pigeon) chick to hatch at Karori Wildlife Sanctuary has been named after the plucky little animated wood pigeon who has become a big hit with cinema goers. To celebrate, Roadshow Film Distributors arranged a special screening of the movie VALIANT, with all ticket sales going directly to support conservation work at Karori Wildlife Sanctuary. The special screening of VALIANT took place on Sunday 12 February at the Reading Cinema on Courtenay Place in Wellington. Movie goers got to enjoy both the film and the company of Beatrice the Contact Energy Kereru, who helped to greet visitors, draw the raffle and hand out the prize! Over $1,400 was raised for the Sanctuary, which is a vital refuge for some of New Zealand's rarest wildlife. Karori Wildlife Sanctuary would like to sincerely thank VALIANT producer Barnaby Thompson, Roadshow Film Distributors (especially Melanie Rae, Grant Steel and Kate Hamlin) and, of course, Beatrice the Kereru!
