Leave a bequest to the Sanctuary in your will

Our 500 year vision
Our 500 year vision

When considering your will, you have the opportunity to support us by leaving a bequest – a donation to the Sanctuary stipulated in your will.

Karori Wildlife Sanctuary has a 500 year vision. This is how long it will take to return the Sanctuary valley to how it was before human and pest animal invasion. To date we have achieved a lot – little spotted kiwi are now calling back on the mainland of New Zealand, hihi and saddleback are back on the mainland and many species lost to Wellington some time ago are now back, such as bellbird, whitehead, tomtit, kaka - but we still have a long way to go.

A bequest to the Sanctuary is a precious gift – your support helps us ensure an enduring legacy for generations to come – for your children, grand-children and great-grandchildren so that they can enjoy, and learn about, New Zealand’s natural heritage.

There are 4 different ways you can remember us in your will

Percentage of your estate

By nominating a percentage of your estate you ensure that your donation keeps pace with inflation and is of the greatest possible value to the Sanctuary.

Specific Sum

You can nominate a specific amount in your will, but you may wish to consider reviewing this regularly in light of inflation and changes to the value of your estate.

Residue of your estate

Once your estate is settled, your gifts to family and friends have been taken care of and your expenses covered, you can gift any monies left to the Sanctuary.

Gift of property

You can nominate specific property or assets to be donated to the Sanctuary. However we would like to suggest that you check with us first, to ensure that we are able to accept and utilise your gift in the way that you would hope.

How to word your bequest

To ensure your wishes are met and your bequest benefits the Sanctuary as you intended, we request that you use the following wording in your Will:

“I give, free of all duties, to Karori Reservoir Wildlife Sanctuary Trust Incorporated, Waiapu Road, Wellington, ______________________ * for general purposes, for which the receipt of the Chief Executive Officer or other proper officer of the Sanctuary shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my trustees.”

* insert “% of estate” or “the residue of my estate” or “sum of money” or a description of property or assets here.
