Fence Monitoring Group

Good eye for detail? Looking to get fit? Want to see a side of the sanctuary most people never see? Fence monitoring may be the perfect volunteer job for you. And you can even bring along your dog!

Nearly 30 volunteers already support our staff in monitoring one of five sections of the fence. They go out once a week; once a fortnight; or even just once a month, looking for damage to the mesh, checking drainage ditches and keeping an eye out for soil subsidence. Any damage is then reported back to Trust staff. A section takes around 1-2 hours to check.

Is this role for me?

This role is perfect for people living around our fenceline or in the surrounding area. Because you don't need access to the sanctuary, you can roster your monitoring for any time that suits. So you can go out before or after work, or even when you're out walking the dog!

Minimum requirements:

You will need to be available for at least one excursion per month, but preferably more. Some areas of the fenceline are quite steep, so a reasonable level of fitness is also required. You will need to have a good eye for detail and be comfortable working on your own. Full training will be provided.
